20   Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21   Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

22   Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
'abaddown¹¹ maveth⁴¹⁹⁴ 'amar⁵⁵⁹ shama`<sup>8085</sup> shema`⁸⁰⁸⁸ 'ozen²⁴¹

23   God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
'elohiym⁴³⁰ biyn⁹⁹⁵ derek¹⁸⁷⁰ yada`³⁰⁴⁵ maqowm⁴⁷²⁵

24   For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
nabat⁵⁰²⁷ qatsah⁷⁰⁹⁸ 'erets⁷⁷⁶ ra'ah⁷²⁰⁰ shamayim⁸⁰⁶⁴

25   To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
`asah⁶²¹³ mishqal⁴⁹⁴⁸ ruwach⁷³⁰⁷ takan⁸⁵⁰⁵ mayim⁴³²⁵ middah⁴⁰⁶⁰

26   When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
`asah⁶²¹³ choq²⁷⁰⁶ matar⁴³⁰⁶ derek¹⁸⁷⁰ chaziyz²³⁸⁵ qowl⁶⁹⁶³

27   Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
ra'ah⁷²⁰⁰ caphar⁵⁶⁰⁸ kuwn³⁵⁵⁹ chaqar²⁷¹³

28   And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
